Feeding station

Southern_(lesser)_double-collared_Sunbird

One of the joys of a garden is watching who comes to visit. This morning I was richly rewarded by a visiting Southern (Lesser) Double-collared Sunbird making use of the lavender feeding station, freshly filled with nectar after last night’s brief bout of rain.

Getting ready for the Terns to leave

Today the wind is blowing in Yzerfontein. The wonderful sight of flocks of intermingled terns in flight along our sunny coastline is about to come to an end for this part of the year. Many are summer migrants and with winter approaching they are about to leave for a warmer North. Fewer remain year round and are always special to see. In September they will announce the approach of summer by their arrival. Hopefully there will have been lots of rain in the interim. Sandwich_Terns_WestCoastNP
