Rock Hyrax = Dassie. Closely related to the elephant according to its toes!

A Vervet Thinker. Kruger National Park.

This elephant was clearly curious, if not perturbed, by finding a Meerkat in his playing field. He approached with ears flapping and trunk making little curling circles on the ground. Perhaps they have been friends for a long time, but I surely wondered what they thought of each other in this momentary encounter. King of the hill. A male lion looks down on cars and ample prey in the Addo Elephant National Park, 20 July 2015. It took some intense work in Photoshop to optimise the colour and light in this photograph. Hannelie de Klerk

Pachyderm refers to thick skinned. Elephants are pachyderms and this enables them to survive in the thick thorny bush of the Addo Elephant National Park. 1/2000, f8, 500mm + 1,4 converter taken by Hannelie de Klerk.

As a clinical psychologist with psychodynamic training it fascinates me how intensely we can focus on one part of the other’s body to the exclusion of all else – photography then being the perfect vehicle for showing this elephant as being nosey and thick skinned. His attribute, my attention. Do we together create something new? Hannelie de Klerk

My favourite moment from this trip – being seen by an Addo elephant. I will treasure it. https://hanneliedeklerk.com/2015/08/21/eye-of-the-elephant/
How lucky you are to live so close to the wild animals. Some great shots indeed 🙂
